Bodu Naked.jpg

Bodu cheese boards are crafted from oak and accented with chalkboard paint to give the user both the warmth and elegance of wood and the utility of slate.

Curiosity

The Problem:

This project came out of my mother’s desire for beautiful serving platters that were both light and ergonomic and allowed her to write labels on the food for guests with allergies.  While wooden cheese boards are lighter and better for preserving cutlery, kitchen-ready slabs made out of slate allow the user to also display the name of the food they are serving by writing on the slab with chalk. I designed Bodu to combine these two qualities with a clean wooden body  and artfully integrated sections of chalkboard paint.

Creativity

Process Photos

Bodu is made from oak boards carved and sanded using a combination of power tools, milling machines and work by hand. The chalkboard paint is the final addition and is applied with consideration to each individual board's form.

Impact

A very happy mother.
